by

August 6, 2009 – Angela Champ. 19,  from Harwich, Massachusetts, died yesrday from serious personal injuries sustained in a car accident on a notoriously dangerous stretch of Route 6 near the Orleans town line.  Champ’s 1996 Toyota Camry crossed the center line and collided with a 2004 Chrysler minivan driven by Warren Hayes, 79 also from Harwich.  Hayes’ wife Barbara was a passenger in the minivan.

The Massachusetts State Police originally thought that this was a head on collision but there was a lot of damage to the side of the Camry.  Apparently the minivan flipped on its side as a result of the accident.

Hayes and his wife were taken to Cape Cod Hospital and treated for their injuries.  Initially, a medical helicopter was called to transport Champ and the Hayes’ but it was cancelled after Champ was pronounced dead at the scene and the Hayes’ injuries were ruled as non-life threatening. The crash is still under investigation

Champ was a 2008 graduate of Cape Cod Regional Technical High School where she majored in graphic arts.  She planned on continuing her studies at Cape Cod Community College.
