Essex County is located in northeastern Massachusetts, also called the “North Shore,” and borders New Hampshire. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, Essex County has a population of over 720,000 and a total area of 829 square miles. Suffolk County borders to the south and Middlesex county borders to the west.
