Franklin County is located in western Massachusetts and borders Vermont to the north. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, Franklin County has a population of almost 72,000 and a total area of 725 square miles, of which only 23 square miles is water.; Franklin County is adjacent to Berkshire County to the west, Worcester County to the east, and Hampshire County to the south.
