August 30, 2009 – Sandra Guillermo, 24, of Lawrence, Massachusetts, is in critical condition as the result of personal injuries suffered in a one car accident early Friday morning. She was driving a 1995 Nissan Maxima, which crashed into a tree after jumping the curb on Canal Street in Lawrence.
Guillermo was attended to at the scene of the accident by EMTs who then took her to Lawrence General Hospital. She was later airlifted to Massachusetts General Hospital and listed in critical condition as of Friday afternoon.
When police arrived at the scene, the car was surrounded by a group who were trying to assist the woman and her passenger. One of the group, Mikaila Sinclair, is a medical assistant and was rendering aid to the driver when the police arrived.
According to several motorcyclists, who were riding behind Guillermo, she was traveling west on Canal Street, when the car had stopped at the stop sign at Canal and Jackson streets just prior to the accident. She then accelerated normally when Guillermo apparently lost control, fishtailed and jumped the curb. They saw no brake lights come on prior to the crash. Police are investigating the cause of the accident.
