September 12, 2009 – Daniel Debarros, 18, of Onset, Massachusetts, is in critical condition as the result of serious personal injuries following a single car accident in Falmouth, Massachusetts early Friday morning. The car was driven by a friend, Jordan Pimental, 17, of Mashpee, Massachusetts, who was apparently involved in a hide speed chase with Falmouth police just prior to the crash. Police claim that they had suspended the chase, which began when they attempted to stop Pimental on Brick Kiln Road for a lane violation. Apparently, he took off at high speed and the police pursued.
Officer Sean Doyle claims he broke off the pursuit due to the dangerously high speeds, but Pimental continued on, and allegedly failed to negotiate a turn, flipping his car and landing in the parking lot of the Cape Verdean Club on Sandwich Road. Doyle came upon the car after the crash and found two injured passengers, but Pimental was not in the car.
According to Police, Pimental fled the scene. Later a Barnstable County K-9 unit found him behind a nearby garden center, where a police dog bit him as he tried to resist arrest. He was later charged with a marked-lanes violation, speeding, failing to stop for police, leaving the scene of an accident causing personal injury and leaving the scene of an accident causing property damage.
Debarros was transported to Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston and is believed to be in critical condition. The second passenger, Dare Paige, 25, of North Falmouth was treated and released for minor injuries at Falmouth Hospital. Pimental was also treated there for the dog bite wound. The accident is still under investigation.
