Massachusetts Avenue Bridge Accident Leaves Motorcyclist Dead

June 19, 2012 - Vail Cerullo, 20, of Chester Springs, Pennsylvania, has died as the result of serious personal injuries sustained while operating his motorcycle. According to the Massachusetts State Police, a truck, operated by an unidentified 18 year old Gloucester man, made an improper turn in front of Cerullo's motorcycle. Cerullo then collided with the truck, fell to the ground, and was run over by an SUV. The accident occurred on the Massachusetts Avenue Bridge crossing from Boston to Cambridge at around 2:25 p.m. on Tuesday afternoon.

Cerullo was transported to Brigham & Women's Hospital, where he later died. The truck driver was taken to Cambridge Hospital, where he was treated for non-life threatening injuries. The driver of the SUV was not injured.

No charges have been filed and the accident remains under investigation by the State Police. However, alcohol does not appear to have contribute to the crash.

Springfield, Massachusetts Motorcycle Accident Leaves Man Dead

June 13, 2012 - Luis Gonzalez, 33, of Springfield, Massachusetts, has died as the result of serious personal injuries sustained in a motorcycle accident. The accident occurred at approximately 9:30 p.m. on Saturday at the intersection of Wilbraham Road and Parker Street in Springfield.

Gonzalez and another motorcyclist were traveling together when a car drove in front of them to turn into a pharmacy on Wilbraham Road. Both men went into a slide to avoid a collision.

Gonzalez was transported by ambulance to Baystate Medical Center, where he later died. The other man was not seriously injured.

No charges have been filed to date, and the accident remains under investigation.

Hadley, Massachusetts Motorcycle Accident Kills One, Injures Two

April 18, 2012 - Daniel Haley, 24, from Pittsfield, Massachusetts, has died as a result of serious personal injuries sustained when his motorcycle was struck by a car traveling in the wrong direction on Route 116 in Hadley. Brittini Benton, 24, of Sunderland, was operating the vehicle that hit Haley's motorcycle. Jon Weeks, 57, from Leyden, was operating a second car, which was involved in the crash. The accident occurred at approximately 2:20 a.m. on Saturday.

According to police, Benton was traveling northbound in the southbound lane of Route 116 prior to the collision. Haley was pronounced dead at the scene. Benton and Weeks were also both injured in the accident. Benton was transported by a medical helicopter and Weeks was taken by ambulance to Baystate Medical Center in Springfield.

Haley was a senior at the University of Massachusetts Amherst and was set to graduate in May.

No criminal charges have been filed as of Monday. The accident remains under investigation by the Massachusetts State Police and the Hadley Police Department.

Newton, Massachusetts: Retired Harvard Professor Involved in Crash

October 14, 2010 - Marcia Kearney, 54, from Northampton, Massachusetts has died as a result of serious personal injuries sustained in an accident involving her motor scooter. Detlev Vagts, 81, from Cambridge and a retired Harvard Law Professor, apparently crashed into Kearney's Vespa scooter on Ward Street in Newton. The accident occurred on July 8th, but Vagts was charged with motor vehicle homicide on Wednesday.

Apparently, Kearney was thrown approximately 80 feet from the bike after the collision. She later died in a Boston hospital. According to the prosecutor, Vagts was partially in the wrong lane on Ward Street prior to hitting Kearney's scooter.

Vagts was a law professor at Harvard for more than 40 years before retiring in 2005. No court date has been set.

Lowell, Massachusetts Off Duty Police Officer Dies After Motorcycle Accident

September 14, 2010 - Patrick Johnson, 31, a Lowell, Massachusetts police officer, has died as a result of serious personal injuries sustained in a motorcycle accident that occurred while he was off-duty. Lowell Police Patch.JPG Theary Chan, 26, from Lowell, allegedly ran a stop sign and collided with Johnson's motorcycle sending the officer about 50 feet. The accident happened at the intersection of Princeton Boulevard and Foster Street in Lowell on Saturday morning.

Neighbors and witnesses began performing CPR on Johnson before he was taken to Lowell General Hospital, where he later passed away. Johnson served six years with the Lowell Police Department and was a former U.S. Marine. He leaves behind a wife and a young son and daughter.

Chan was arrested and charged with motor vehicle homicide while operating under the influence, an open container violation and failure to stop at a stop sign. Chan was arraigned on Monday in Lowell District Court where he plead not guilty. A status hearing is scheduled for October 13th.

The accident remains under investigation.

Fall River, Massachusetts Motorcyclist Involved in Fatal Crash

October 13, 2009 - Scott Coop, 27 years old from Fall River, Massachusetts, has died as a result of serious personal injuries sustained in a motorcycle crash on Sunday. The accident occurred on Route 79 south in Fall River just after 2:30 p.m.

According to police, Coop lost control of his motorcycle shortly after entering Route 79 from the Brightman Street on-ramp. After losing control, Coop traveled across all three lanes of traffic before colliding with the median. Coop was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Massachusetts State Police are investigating the crash but have indicated that speed may have played a factor.

Saugus, Massachusetts Motorcycle Accident Leaves Driver Dead

September 29, 2009 - Francis Pare, 65 years old from Malden, Massachusetts, has died due to serious personal injuries sustained when he lost control of his motorcycle while traveling north on Route 1 in Saugus at around 12:45 p.m. on Saturday. Joanne Vasel, 49 from Revere, was a passenger on the bike and was seriously injured.

According to police, Pare was driving 2000 Harley Davidson and when he lost control the bike left the roadway and eventually collided with a utility pole. Pare was transported by ambulance to Melrose-Wakefield Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead. Vasel was taken to Massachusetts General Hospital.

The accident remains under investigation by the Massachusetts State Police.

South Yarmouth, Massachusetts Motorcycle Crash Injures Husband and Wife

September 15, 2009 - A husband and wife suffered serious personal injuries when their motorcycle collided with a car in South Yarmouth, Massachusetts on Sunday. The accident occurred just before 3:00 p.m. at 256 Old Main Street near a gas station in South Yarmouth.

According to the Yarmouth Fire Department, the husband was driving the motorcycle and the wife was his passenger. The man was transported by a medical helicopter to Massachusetts General Hospital and the woman was taken to Cape Cod Hospital. The couple's injuries were considered non-life threatening.

This accident remains under investigation.

Hopkinton, Massachusetts Motorcycle Crash During Memorial Ride

September 8, 2009 - Nancy Costa, 46 from Hyannis, Massachusetts, died as a result of serious personal injuries sustained in a motorcycle collision. Costa was a passenger on one of the motorcycles driven by Colin Cronin, 39, also from Hyannis, and William Sheridan, 43 from Waltham. Both drivers were seriously injured and flown to the University of Massachusetts Medical Center.

The accident happened just after 7 a.m. on Sunday. According to police, the two motorcycles crashed as they were attempting to enter the northbound lanes of Interstate 495 from West Main Street in Hopkinton. When the collision occurred, a September 11th memorial ride was taking place on the Interstate.

This accident remains under investigation.

Kingston, Massachusetts: Young Motorcylist Dies After Collision

September 4, 2009 - Thomas McNevin, 26, of Wareham, Massachusetts has died from serious personal injuries suffered on Wednesday evening as the result of a motorcycle accident. McNevin was operating the motorcycle, which collided with a car on Summer Street in Kingston, Massachusetts.

The car was a Ford Taurus driven by a woman traveling southbount down a hill, who appeared to have crossed over the double yellow line while turning into a driveway. Some witnesses said that McNevin may have been speeding and he did not appear to be wearing a DOT certified helmet.

McNevin was first taken by ambulance to Jordan Hospital in Plymouth, but then air-lifted to Brigham and Women's Hospital for further treatment. According to police, he was pronounced dead at 9:51 p.m.

The accident occurred just before 6 p.m. at the corner of Route 3A and Maple Street, just north of the MBTA commuter rail tracks. A Massachusetts State Police accident reconstruction team is assisting Duxbury police as well as the the Bureau of Criminal Investigation of the Plymouth County Sheriff. The driver of the other car has not been identified and the accident remains under investigation at this time.

Massachusetts Motorcyclist Injured in Nashua, NH Crash

July 24, 2009 - David Bunker, 61, of Marlborough, Massachusetts suffered serious personal injuries in a motorcycle accident yesterday morning while driving in Nashua, New Hampshire. Bunker was traveling southbound on Depot Road as a car pulled out of a driveway. Bunker swerved to avoid the car and lost control of the motorcyle. He then went off the road, stuck a sign and a wooden fence.

Bunker suffered injury to his legs and was taken to St. Joseph Hospital in Nashua where he remains in stable condition. He was wearing a helmet at the time of the accident. Bunker was unable to identify the car, which caused him to lose control, and it appears that the driver of the car never stopped and may not have even been aware of the accident. Nashua Police say the case remains under investigation.
