February 26, 2014: An unidentified 17 year old boy has died as the result of being struck by a Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority (“MBTA”) commuter rail train on Monday. The teenager was walking on the tracks north of Pond Street in Billerica at approximately 9:45 a.m., when the accident occurred. Police are unsure why he was on the tracks.

The train was headed to Lowell from Boston and was carrying about 26 passengers on board. None of the passengers were injured in the crash. It has been reported that several train related incidents have occurred in the area over the past few weeks. Train related deaths have also increased across the MBTA system over the past year, according to reports.

The MBTA Transit Police and the Middlesex District Attorney’s office are currently investigating the accident.

November 6, 2013 – Elaina Millard, 42, of Tewksbury, Massachusetts, has died as a result of serious personal injuries sustained when a car struck her as she attempted to cross the street. The accident took place at the intersection of Main Street and Summer Street in Tewksbury at approximately 6 a.m. on Tuesday.

According to the Tewksbury Police Department, Millard was crossing the northbound lane of Main Street at the time of the accident. She was transported by helicopter to Saints Memorial Hospital in Lowell, where she was later pronounced dead. The male driver, who has yet to be identified, was not injured.

The crash is currently under investigation.

September 5, 2013 – George Power, 71, of Easton, Massachusetts, has died as a result of serious personal injuries sustained when Colin O’Hearne, 17, also of Easton, lost control of his SUV and collided with Power. The accident occurred on Summer Street in Easton on Monday at approximately 9:00 a.m.

Power was walking his dog east on Summer Street prior to the accident. He was taken by ambulance to Good Samaritan Hospital in Brockton, where he was later pronounced dead.

The Bristol County District Attorney’s office has stated that O’Herne has been charged with negligently operating a vehicle resulting in death, speeding, and marked lane violations. The accident remains under investigation.

June 25, 2013 – Steven Khabbaz, 27, of Tewksbury, Massachusetts, has died as the result of serious personal injuries sustained when he was struck by a vehicle. The accident occurred at approximately 10:00 p.m. on Saturday near exit 26 on Route 3 North in Billerica.

According to the Billerica Police Department, Khabbaz was involved in a single car accident along Route 3 and then exited his vehicle and began walking down the roadway. At some later point, he was struck by a passing vehicle just north of exit 26. Massachusetts State Police reports have indicated that Khabbaz died at the scene.

Several other accidents were caused as a result of the body in the roadway. The accident remains under investigation by the State Police.

June 5, 2013 – John Kutch, 52, of Southborough, Massachusetts, sustained serious personal injuries when his bicycle was struck by a car at approximately 4:00 p.m. on Saturday. An unidentified 25 year old Southborough man was operating the vehicle westbound on Main Street and was attempting to turn left onto Middle Road, when he struck Kutch’s bicycle, which was traveling eastbound on Main Street.

As a result of the collision, Kutch was thrown onto the windshield and then fell to the ground. According to police, Kutch was wearing a helmet and was conscious at the scene of the crash. He was transported by ambulance to UMass Memorial Medical Center, where he has remained since the accident.

No charges have been filed against the driver as of this date. The accident remains under investigation by the Southborough Police Department and the Central Massachusetts Law Enforcement Council.

May 2, 2013 – Gregory Poole, 55, of East Bridgewater, Massachusetts, sustained serious personal injuries when he was struck by an SUV. The accident occurred on Wednesday at approximately 1:00p.m. while Poole was standing outside of the home he rents. The driver, his sister, Cynthia Gerrior, 53, of Whitman, had been parked in Poole’s driveway when she placed the vehicle in reverse, and caused it to strike Poole, and continue into the house through the front door.

According to the East Bridgewater Fire Department, Poole was airlifted by MedFlight helicopter to Tufts Medical Center in Boston with multiple internal injuries. He was listed in good condition on Thursday. Gerrior was taken from the scene in an ambulance, but was uninjured.

The house sustained extensive property damage, including a 10’x10′ hole where the front door used to be. There are broken windows, hanging insulation, and lose wires and plugs.

The East Bridgewater Police Department responded to the scene, and do not believe Gerrior will be charged with criminal negligence.

April 29, 2013 – Barry Russell, 59, of Wareham, Massachusetts, has died as the result of serious personal injuries sustained when he was struck by a vehicle. Charles Rohrback IV, 19, also of Wareham, was operating his sedan on Cranberry Highway in Wareham when the car struck Russell as he attempted to cross the street. The accident occurred at approximately 8:10 p.m. last Friday.

Russell was pronounced dead at the scene. Rohrback was uninjured and remained at the scene after the accident.

According to the Wareham Police Department, no criminal charges have been filed. The accident remains under investigation by the Wareham Police and the Massachusetts State Police.

March 2, 2013 – Bill McDermott, 66, of Boston has died as the result of serious personal injuries sustained when he was struck by an SUV, while attempting to cross William Day Boulevard near L Street in South Boston. The accident occurred at approximately 7:30 p.m. last Wednesday.

According to the Suffolk County District Attorney’s Office, the driver of the vehicle, a 33 year-old man from South Boston, did not exhibit signs of intoxication at the time of the accident. The Massachusetts State Police are investigating the crash, but have not yet filed any charges.

McDermott was a renowned attorney, and a top adviser of U.S. Rep. Stephen F. Lynch. McDermott specialized in elections law, and had previously served as elections commissioner under former Mayor Kevin White. He had also represented state Representative Brian Wallace, a Democrat from South Boston.

September 20, 2012 – Riley McManus, 21, and Dillon McManus, 21, twin brothers from Lynn, Massachusetts, have sustained serious personal injuries when they were struck by a vehicle. Angela Okenkwo, 36, also from Lynn, was operating a Hummer that collided with the brothers. The accident occurred at around 11:00 p.m. Tuesday night, in front of the McManus’ home at 701 Boston Street in Lynn.

The Lynn Police Department responded to the scene and found both of the McManus brothers lying in the street. They were transported to Massachusetts General Hospital, where they remain in critical condition.

At this time, no charges have been filed against Okenkwo.

The accident remains under investigation by the Lynn Police Department and the Massachusetts State Police.

May 25, 2012 – Marie Stewart, 71, of Everett, Massachusetts, has sustained serious personal injuries when she was hit by a car while working as a school crossing guard. John Mitchell, 67, was operating the Massachusetts Water Resources Authority pickup truck that struck Stewart. The accident occurred on Wednesday morning on Ferry Street in Everett.

Stewart was transported to Massachusetts General Hospital, where he condition is unknown. According to a witness, Stewart was conscious when she left the scene. Mitchell was taken to Whidden Memorial Hospital for observation.

Authorities have not brought criminal charges against Mitchell as of this date. The cause of the accident is unknown and remains under investigation.
